Hi, I'm Kels!

The Best Sourdough Glazed Donuts

When embarking on this juicing adventure, I wasn’t sure what the outcome would be. I had hopes of clearer skin, brighter eyes, more energy, and an overall zest for life. The results I have had in such a short time are astounding to me. I lost 8 lbs. doing this juice fast and changing my diet over the last two weeks. My husband lost 18 lbs. We feel fantastic. Each morning I wake up and feel great. I don’t remember ever feeling this way in the morning. Before the fast I had to eat something within 30 minutes of waking up, or I felt sick. Being able to wake up feeling great and even go for an hour or longer without eating in the morning is a very significant change for me.

I’m now back to eating most things, but haven’t cooked any grains yet. I have had dairy, eggs, and a lot of fruits and veggies. The most striking thing to me since doing the fast is how good everything tastes. I feel as if I have been hiding for years behind the chemicals and processed junk I was eating. I thought I was healthy and ate well . . . but there is a major difference in taste since I’ve stepped out from behind all of those chemicals. Even my fruits and vegetables taste almost new to me. I ate an avocado yesterday with fresh lime juice squeezed on top, alongside my eggs and tomato slices. It was heavenly.

Real food tastes delicious. I’ve experienced simple pleasures that I’ve never had, like biting into a banana and thinking it was ridiculously sweet, or eating an entire baked sweet potato with nothing on it, just because it was so darn good that way! I’m hooked.

My husband and I watched the film, Hungry for Change over the weekend. We love to watch documentaries about food, and this was the best one yet. I urged everyone I know to watch it, even though I know there are some who never will. At least I got the word out there, and many of my family members and friends have now seen it. It’s amazing to see people start to change. Making a commitment to alter what you put into your mouth is no small feat. Our Western diet is hard to get away from, because the sugars and chemicals we ingest are so addictive. I have been humbled and proud and extremely emotional as people close to me have shared little things they are changing, just from watching this video.

I hope that this blog provides some of the same motivation, even if on a much smaller scale!
