Hi, I'm Kels!

The Best Sourdough Glazed Donuts

This post has been a long time coming. I have put it off because I feel like I couldn’t possibly fit everything into one little post, so I won’t even try to. This will be my first post of many on the topic of essential oils.

The first time I was introduced to essential oils I was 30 weeks pregnant with my third daughter. I was out for dinner with some friends from grade school and one of them started raving about oils and pulled one out of her bag for us all to try. I was intrigued. I had heard about essential oils, but didn’t look into it much. Then I had my baby and life got busy. A few months later another friend started mentioning oils on her blog and how she was incorporating them into her family’s life.  That is when I started REALLY looking into and reading more about essential oils and their uses/benefits.

As a basic overview:

“Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. . . Essential oils are very clean, almost crisp, to the touch and are immediately absorbed by the skin. Pure, unadulterated essential oils are translucent and range in color from crystal clear to deep blue. . . In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and being beautifully fragrant to people, essential oils have been used throughout history in many cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits. Modern scientific study and trends toward more holistic approaches to wellness are driving a revival and new discovery of essential oil health applications.” (Source)

As I continued to learn more, I knew that this was something that fit with my philosophy of health and I needed to try them for myself. After looking into a couple of different companies/brands, I chose to buy the Family Physician kit from doTerra essential oils to get me started. This kit includes ten of the most commonly used oils: lavender, peppermint, lemon, oregano, frankincense, melaleuca (tea tree), and some of their oil blends (a specific blend of several oils aimed to target certain ailments): breathe, deep blue, on guard, and digestzen.

In short, I have been absolutely blown away. I have been using oils now for 8 months and will never stop. There are certain oils/blends that have quite literally changed my life and I use my oils every single day. I have become the crazy oil lady who carries around tiny viles of certain oils in her purse! I will do separate posts on specific oils and how they’ve helped me and my family, but I wanted to start out by saying that we all use them and love them. My daughters now ask for oils instead of medicine when they aren’t feeling well, and that makes me feel great.

The bottom line for me is this: these oils have been great for me and my family. They have done wonders for me personally and how my body feels and how I’ve overcome certain ailments over the past six months. It comes down to the fact that I am adding something good into our lives. For me, there are a lot worse things I could be doing to my body. Essential oils in any form are better than drinking a diet soda or eating chocolate cake all day long. That’s just how I see it. I am doing something good, that has helped me and thousands of others, and I want to spread the word.

If you want to read more about the oils, their history, uses, different grades, how they are extracted, etc. or if you just want to look at all of the different kinds, you can go to:

That is a link to my personal doTerra website. I will be posting more about the oils I love and am excited to share what I’ve learned. I believe that any good quality oil can help and have used oils from other companies as well. I have become converted to using essential oils in my every day life and want to help others do the same.
